About the Company

Mars is a family-owned company with over a century of history, 25 of which have been spent in Kazakhstan. Its headquarters in Almaty brings together 11 countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. Snickers, M&M's, Twix, Mars, Bounty, Milky Way, Skittles, Orbit, Whiskas, Sheba, Kitekat, Pedigree, Chappi, Perfect Fit, Dreamies — all of these are brands of Mars. The corporate culture reflects core values — a family atmosphere, respect, development, and providing opportunities for career growth.

Objectives

  • Develop a program that enhances employee engagement in a health-oriented corporate culture through digital tools.
  • Unify participants by overcoming geographical, cultural, and language barriers, creating an inclusive environment for employees from various regions.

Solution

Stage 1. Research and Analytics

Before starting the project, we studied the features of the company’s corporate culture (focus on teamwork and innovation), the needs of the client and employees, and conducted interviews with the HR team and employees to identify barriers to a healthy lifestyle.

Stage 2. Platform Development

Based on the data, we created a customized mobile application with gamification elements. Branding: colors, logos, and the company’s mission are integrated into the interface. Team challenges: the ability to form groups, compete in steps/workouts, and accumulate points. Personal challenges: the program offers personalized tasks for users with varying fitness levels and goals.

Stage 3. Launch and Optimization

After the release, we monitored engagement, task completion, and collected feedback. The support team assisted users who faced difficulties due to a lack of clear understanding of the challenge mechanics.

The success of the project was ensured by gamification tools and reliable methods for assessing the effectiveness of the wellbeing programme. Spoiler: we achieved the project's goals and met expectations.

In general, the application can be seen as a game: you perform activities, earn points called "charges," and receive valuable prizes and gifts for them. And all of this looks like a large corporate social network branded for the client.

What challenges did we face

Project participants encountered difficulties due to a lack of understanding of the challenge mechanics. Resolving all issues and answering all questions was the task of our support department, which worked with users 24/7. Additionally, we suggested including a video or presentation about the mechanics and rules of the challenges in future projects.

Results

The project successfully accomplished two strategic tasks for the client: increasing participant engagement in wellbeing and uniting company employees living in 11 countries.

Goal #1: Engagement

Metric: Engagement level (percentage of active users completing tasks regularly).

Result: 78% of participants remained active throughout the project (the average for similar programmes in the industry is 65%).

Goal #2: Unification

Metric: social and content metrics, feedback from participants, demand for team challenges.

Result: 98.7% of participants viewed the stories, 45% sent messages, 52.7% liked posts.

Participant Profile

Based on data from the app app, we created a detailed user profile for the app project participant and Mars Kazakhstan. This is based on regular monitoring of user activity, analysis of average indicators, and calculation of key metrics that allow for an objective assessment of engagement in the project.

Participants demonstrated loyalty to the app — they used the platform an average of 4 times a day, with an average session time of 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
